Three ways to check this yourself
Every privacy app claims the same things. These are the checks that actually settle it, and you can run all three before you trust Vaultly with a single photo.
1. Turn on Airplane Mode
Import photos, browse the vault, run a backup, lock and unlock. Everything works exactly the same, because none of it ever needed a connection.
2. Read the App Privacy Report
In iOS Settings, open Privacy & Security, then App Privacy Report. Vaultly never appears under network activity, because it contains no networking code to make a request with.
3. Check the App Store label
Vaultly’s App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected. That label is a declaration to Apple, and getting it wrong is a policy violation, not a marketing choice.

Questions people actually ask
Where are my photos stored?
On your iPhone only. Vaultly has no account system and no server. Every photo and video is encrypted with AES-256-GCM on the device, and the key never leaves it.
What if I forget my passcode?
Nothing can be recovered. Your passcode is the only key and Vaultly never stores it. That is what makes the encryption real - it applies to us too. Create an encrypted backup so a forgotten passcode or a lost phone does not mean lost photos.
What is a decoy vault?
A second passcode that opens a completely separate vault with its own photos. If someone pressures you to unlock the app, you open the decoy. There is no way to tell from inside it that a real vault exists.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. Vaultly is a universal app with a sidebar layout on iPad and a tab layout on iPhone. It requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26.
Can I hide the app itself?
Yes, and it is worth doing - see every way to hide photos on iPhone. Disguise the icon as a calculator, weather or notes app, remove it from the Home Screen so it only appears in the App Library, and hide it from Spotlight search.
Are screenshots protected?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. A screenshot taken inside Vaultly is saved to your Photos library, outside the vault. Vaultly warns you when it detects one so you can delete it.
